Nepal packages from the UAE: prices and nights

Nepal is a short flight from the UAE, about four and a half hours, yet it feels a world away: temple squares in Kathmandu, a calm lake under the Annapurna range in Pokhara, and rhino country in the lowland jungle of Chitwan. Most of our guests choose between three trip lengths. Every price is per person, sharing a double room, with return flights from Abu Dhabi or Dubai.

What the package includes

Our Nepal packages bundle the parts that are hard to arrange from the UAE: the international flight, the short domestic flight to Pokhara, the drivers and the guides. Our recent Kathmandu and Pokhara package included:

Checklist

  • Domestic return flight Kathmandu to Pokhara, about 25 minutes each way instead of six or seven hours by road
  • Arrival and departure airport transfers
  • Sarangkot sunrise trip, the World Peace Stupa and a Pokhara city tour
  • Kathmandu valley sightseeing with a professional guide

Not included unless your quote says so:

  • Nepal visa fees
  • Meals on the flight, seat selection, early check-in and late check-out
  • Travel insurance, which you need for trekking or the Everest flight
  • Paragliding, zip-lining and other optional activities in Pokhara
  • Tips for the guide and driver, and meals not named in the itinerary

03

6 nights Kathmandu, Pokhara and Chitwan itinerary

This is the trip we suggest for a first visit of a week. It mixes the heritage of the Kathmandu valley, the mountain views of Pokhara and a jungle stay, with one domestic flight and road transfers in between.

  1. 01

    Day 1: Arrive in Kathmandu

Meet our representative at Tribhuvan International Airport. Visit Pashupatinath, the Hindu temple on the Bagmati River, and Boudhanath, among the biggest stupas anywhere in South Asia and the centre of Tibetan Buddhist life in the city. Evening in Thamel.

  2. 02

    Day 2: Kathmandu valley

Swayambhunath, the hilltop stupa known as the monkey temple, then Kathmandu Durbar Square and Patan Durbar Square with their palaces, courtyards and carved wooden temples. All three are UNESCO World Heritage Sites.

  3. 03

    Day 3: Fly to Pokhara

Morning flight to Pokhara with mountain views on a clear day. Afternoon at the World Peace Stupa above the lake, then a rowing boat on Phewa Lake to the small Tal Barahi temple on its island.

  4. 04

Day 4: Sarangkot sunrise and Pokhara

Drive up to Sarangkot before dawn to watch the sun light Annapurna, Dhaulagiri and Machapuchare, the Fishtail. After breakfast, Davis Falls, Gupteshwor Cave and Bindhyabasini Temple. Paragliding from Sarangkot is an optional extra.

  5. 05

    Day 5: Drive to Chitwan

Afternoon Tharu village walk and sunset by the Rapti River.

  6. 06

    Day 6: Jungle safari

A canoe ride on the Rapti to see birds and crocodiles, then a jeep safari into the park, where one-horned rhinos, deer and, with luck, a tiger can be seen. Evening Tharu cultural show at the lodge.

With a day less, we drop Chitwan and keep the Kathmandu and Pokhara plan. With a day more, we add Bhaktapur Durbar Square, the most complete of the three old royal cities, or a night at Nagarkot for the mountain sunrise.

04

Short treks, the Everest mountain flight and Nagarkot sunrise

You do not need to be a mountaineer to see the Himalaya. These are the add-ons UAE residents ask us for most, from an hour in the air to a few days on foot.

  • 01

    Poon Hill trek

A three or four day teahouse trek from near Pokhara, through rhododendron forest and stone villages to Ghorepani. The dawn climb to Poon Hill, at about 3,210 m, shows Annapurna and Dhaulagiri close up.

  • 02

    Australian Camp and Dhampus

An overnight walk above Pokhara with lodge views of the Annapurna range.

  • 03

    Everest mountain flight

An early-morning sightseeing flight of about an hour from Kathmandu's domestic terminal, along the range to Everest and back.

  • 04

    Nagarkot sunrise

A hill village about 32 km east of Kathmandu. Stay a night and watch the sun rise along the Himalaya, with a distant view towards Everest on very clear days.

Low-cost fares often have a small checked baggage allowance, and families going home usually carry gifts, so we compare fares with the bags included. One-way fares suit workers going home on leave; returns suit holidays. For other routes, see our flight tickets from Abu Dhabi.

Nepal visa and documents for UAE residents

Your Nepal entry rule depends on your passport, not on your UAE residence. Most nationalities can get a tourist visa on arrival at Kathmandu airport, or fill in the online form before travel to shorten the queue. Indian citizens do not need a visa.

When to go: spring and autumn versus monsoon

October to November

Weather
Dry, clear skies, cool nights
Good for
Mountain views, treks, the Everest flight; also Dashain and Tihar

December to February

Weather
Cold, mostly clear, quieter
Good for
Kathmandu and Pokhara sightseeing, Chitwan

March to May

Weather
Warm, rhododendrons in bloom, some haze
Good for
Treks and Chitwan before the heat

June to September

Weather
Monsoon rain and cloud
Good for
Lower hotel rates; expect road delays and hidden peaks

Nepal by season, for travellers from the UAE

Autumn is the classic season, so book flights and Pokhara hotels early for October. The UAE summer break falls in the monsoon. Kathmandu's temples are still worth seeing, but mountain views are rare and landslides can close roads, so we fly rather than drive between cities.

08

For Nepali families in the UAE: tickets home and family trips

Many of our Nepal bookings are not holidays at all. They are Nepali residents of Abu Dhabi and Dubai flying home on leave, or bringing the family together for a festival. We quote one-way and return fares side by side, with the baggage allowance shown, and book the whole family on one ticket where possible.

  • Dashain, usually late September or October: the biggest travel peak of the year. Book four to six weeks ahead or more.
  • Tihar, two to three weeks after Dashain: fares stay high between the two festivals.
  • Nepali New Year in mid-April and Teej in August or September: smaller peaks.
  • UAE school holidays in July, August and December: fares rise from both ends.

Carry your passport, valid UAE residence and Emirates ID. Planning a family holiday rather than a trip home? Our family tours page has ideas, and nearby options include India travel packages and Sri Lanka holiday packages.
