Sri Lanka package prices from the UAE
Sri Lanka is one of the better-value trips from the UAE: the flight is about four and a half hours, hotels cost less than in the Maldives or Europe, and a private driver for the whole trip is affordable even for two people. The price depends mostly on the number of nights, the hotel grade and the month. The table shows starting prices per person, sharing a double room, with return flights from Abu Dhabi and a private car and driver.

Families and groups of four or more pay less per person for the car, because one driver and vehicle covers everyone; we move you into a van for larger groups. Shared tours, where you join other travellers on a coach, cost a little less again but run on fixed times. For most UAE travellers we recommend the private driver: the roads are slow, and being able to stop for a tea factory, a fruit stall or a prayer break makes the days easier.
Entry tickets are usually paid on the day.

Prices rise over Christmas and New Year, Sinhala and Tamil New Year in April, and the UAE school holidays. Dates in May, June or September often cost less if you plan the beach part on the right coast. Check our cheapest tour packages this month if your dates are open.

What the package includes: flights, hotels and a private driver
Our Sri Lanka packages are built around a private car with a chauffeur guide. The driver meets you at the airport, stays with you for the whole trip, speaks English and knows the roads, the restaurants and where to stop. Here is what our recent Sri Lanka trips have included:
Checklist
- Hotels in your chosen grade with daily breakfast; some beach resorts on half board or all-inclusive
- Private air-conditioned car, or a van for larger groups, with an English-speaking chauffeur guide
- Airport meet and greet at Bandaranaike International Airport, Katunayake
- Sightseeing as listed: Kandy city tour, Peradeniya Gardens, a tea factory, Gregory Lake, a river cruise
- A Kandyan cultural dance show on some itineraries
Not included unless your quote says so:

- The Sri Lanka ETA fee, where one applies
- Entry tickets at temples, gardens and parks
- Jeep safaris in Yala or Udawalawe, whale watching and white-water rafting at Kitulgala
- Hill-country train tickets on packages that do not list them
- Lunches, dinners and drinks not named in the itinerary
- Camera permits at some sites, tips and personal spending
The airport is at Katunayake, about 30 km north of Colombo, which is why many trips start by driving straight to the cultural triangle or Kandy rather than into the city. Sri Lanka uses the rupee. Cards work in hotels and malls; carry cash for temples, tuk-tuks, fruit stalls and tips. Halal food is easy to find, especially in Colombo, Kandy and the coast, where many restaurants are Muslim-owned.

7-night itinerary: Sigiriya, Kandy, Ella and the south coast
This is the classic first-timer's loop: ancient cities, Kandy, the tea country, the famous train and a beach to finish.

- 01
Day 1: Arrive, drive to Sigiriya (about 4 hours)
Your driver meets you at the airport. Stop on the way at the Pinnawala Elephant Orphanage or a spice garden, then check in near Sigiriya. Evening at the hotel pool.
- 02
Day 2: Sigiriya and Dambulla
Climb Sigiriya Rock early, before the heat: the Lion's Paws gate, the frescoes and the palace ruins on the summit. In the afternoon, see the painted cave temples at Dambulla. For a quieter view of the rock, climb nearby Pidurangala at sunset.
- 03
Day 3: To Kandy (about 2.5 to 3 hours)
Drive south to Kandy, the last royal capital. Walk around Kandy Lake, then the evening ceremony at the Temple of the Sacred Tooth Relic and a Kandyan dance show.
- 04
Day 4: Peradeniya and the hill-country train
Your driver takes the luggage by road and meets you at Ella.
- 05
Day 5: Ella
Walk to Little Adam's Peak for the view across the valley to Ella Rock, then the Nine Arches Bridge as a train crosses, and Ravana Falls on the road south. Cooler air and quiet evenings.
- 06
Day 6: To the south coast (about 4 to 5 hours)
Drive down to the coast, with an optional afternoon jeep safari in Yala or Udawalawe on the way for elephants and, in Yala, a chance of leopards. Check in at Galle, Mirissa or Bentota.
- 07
Day 7: Galle and the beach
Walk the walls of Galle Fort, a Dutch-era town that is now a World Heritage Site, with cafes and craft shops inside. The afternoon is free on the beach, or take a river cruise or visit a turtle hatchery.
- 08
Day 8: Fly home (about 2.5 hours to the airport)
The southern expressway makes the run back to Katunayake straightforward. Allow time for traffic around Colombo.
- 01
Colombo
The capital and the start or end of most trips. Gangaramaya Temple, the Seema Malaka pavilion on Beira Lake, Independence Square and Galle Face Green at sunset. Shopping at One Galle Face, Crescat Boulevard, ODEL and Barefoot. One night is usually enough.
- 02
Kandy
A lakeside hill city and the cultural centre. The Temple of the Sacred Tooth Relic, the 147-acre Peradeniya gardens, a gem museum and Kandyan dancing. A good base for two nights, with Pinnawala on the drive in.
- 03
Nuwara Eliya and Ella
The tea country, around 1,800 m in Nuwara Eliya, with cool nights all year. Nuwara Eliya has colonial bungalows, Gregory Lake and strawberry farms; Ella has the Nine Arches Bridge and easy hikes. Pick one for short trips.
- 04
Bentota, Galle and Mirissa
The south-west and south coast. Bentota for resorts, river cruises and water sports; Galle for the old fort town; Mirissa for whale watching in season and a quieter beach. Dry from December to April.
Swap Ella for Nuwara Eliya if you prefer colonial hotels, Gregory Lake and a tea factory tour to hiking. Add a night in Colombo at the end for shopping at One Galle Face and the Barefoot gallery shop. For ten nights, add Trincomalee or Pasikudah on the east coast between May and September, when that side is dry.
04
Shorter trips: 4 or 5 nights from Abu Dhabi
Sri Lanka works well for a long weekend or an Eid break because the flight is short and morning arrivals give you most of the first day. With four or five nights, pick one region and add a second only if the drive is easy.

- 01
4 nights: Kandy and Nuwara Eliya
Pinnawala on the way up, two nights in Kandy for the Temple of the Tooth, Peradeniya and a dance show, then two nights in Nuwara Eliya for tea estates, Ramboda Falls and Gregory Lake. Mostly cool hill weather, good in the UAE summer.
- 02
4 nights: beach and Colombo
Three nights at a resort in Bentota or Ahungalla, one in Colombo for shopping and Galle Face Green at sunset. The least driving of any trip; this coast is driest from December to April.
- 03
5 nights: Kandy, Bentota and Colombo
Two nights each in Kandy and on the coast, about four and a half hours apart by road, then a last night in Colombo near the airport. A good mix for families who want culture and a beach.
- 04
5 nights: Sigiriya and Kandy
Two nights near Sigiriya for the rock, Dambulla and an elephant safari at Minneriya, three in Kandy with a day trip to the tea country. For travellers who prefer history to beaches.
Short trips feel rushed when they try to fit Ella and the south coast together. If you want the train and a beach, give it seven nights. If you have more time and want to keep going, Sri Lanka pairs well with the Maldives, and many UAE travellers also look at our India travel packages or a nepal tour package from dubai for another short-haul trip later in the year.

- Peak dates: Sinhala and Tamil New Year in mid-April, the UAE summer and winter school holidays, Eid, Christmas and New Year
- Low-cost fares often exclude checked baggage and meals, so compare the full price
- Packages often beat the separate flight price because the fare is bundled with the hotel
- Morning departures from the UAE land in Colombo in the afternoon, so day 1 is a drive, not a lost day
Send us your dates on WhatsApp and we will quote the lowest fare we can find that day, on its own or inside a package. For other routes, see our flight tickets from Abu Dhabi page.

Entry rules: Sri Lanka ETA
Most visitors need an Electronic Travel Authorisation (ETA) approved before they fly to Sri Lanka.
Checklist
- Passport with six months or more of validity counted from the day you arrive
- UAE residence visa, valid for your return
- Return or onward flight ticket
- Hotel bookings for your stay
We apply for the ETA with your package, so the approval is ready before departure. If you are building a list of short trips that need less paperwork, see our guide to visa-free countries for UAE residents.

When to go: two monsoons, two coasts
Sri Lanka has two monsoons that hit opposite sides of the island at different times, so there is a dry coast in almost every month. From December to April, the driest areas are the hill country and the coasts to the west and south. The east coast is driest from May to September. October and November bring rain across most of the island.

Sri Lanka by month and region
| Months | West and south coast | Hill country | East coast | Cultural triangle |

| December to March | Dry, calm sea, whale season off Mirissa | Dry, cool nights | Wet and rough sea | Dry and warm |
| April | Hot, mostly dry | Pleasant; New Year festivals | Getting drier | Hot |
| May to September | Southwest monsoon: rain, rough sea | Showers, misty, green | Dry, calm, beach season | Mostly dry, windy |
| October to November | Showers | Wettest months | Rain starting | Showers |
For the UAE summer holidays, plan the hill country, the cultural triangle and the east coast at Trincomalee, Pasikudah or Arugam Bay. For the winter break and National Day, plan the classic loop with Galle, Mirissa or Bentota. If you want a Southeast Asian beach in the same months as a wet Sri Lankan coast, compare our Thailand tour package from UAE.

Questions
Sri Lanka trip questions
The questions UAE travellers ask us most about Sri Lanka. Ask yours on WhatsApp, call 02 679 8008 or visit our travel agency in Abu Dhabi at Mushrif Mall.
What is the Abu Dhabi to Sri Lanka flight ticket price?
Send your dates and we will quote the cheapest fare that day.
What does a SriLankan Airlines ticket cost from Abu Dhabi?
Check the baggage allowance on the cheapest fare. We compare it with other carriers and package fares, which are often lower.
Do UAE residents need a visa for Sri Lanka?
Your passport must be valid for six months. We apply for the ETA with your package so it is ready before departure.
What is a good 7-day Sri Lanka itinerary?
A good 7-day plan is: Negombo on arrival, Sigiriya and Dambulla, Kandy and the Temple of the Tooth, the hill-country train to Ella, then Galle or Bentota on the south coast before flying home. A private driver links each stop, which suits families and saves time compared with public transport.
Are cheap Sri Lanka tours available from the UAE?
Yes. Travelling in the shoulder months, sharing a driver with a group and choosing 3-star hotels keeps the price down.
When is the dry season in Sri Lanka?
The west and south coasts and the hill country are driest from December to April, while the east coast around Trincomalee and Arugam Bay is driest from May to September. Sri Lanka has a good side to visit in every month, and we plan the beach part of your trip to match.
