Vietnam packages from Abu Dhabi and Dubai: prices by length

Vietnam is long and thin, so the length of the trip decides how much of it you see. Six nights covers the north well. Seven or eight adds the centre. Ten nights lets you go from Hanoi to Ho Chi Minh City without rushing. The table shows starting prices per person, sharing a double room, with return flights from the UAE and the internal flights.

What moves the price most is the Ha Long Bay cruise. A shared day boat is the lowest cost; an overnight cruise with a cabin is the experience most people remember, and cabin grades vary widely. Hotel grade, the travel month and whether tours are shared or private come next. Vietnam itself is good value on the ground, so 5-star hotels cost less than in many places UAE residents visit.

What is included: international and internal flights, hotels, transfers, tours

Distances in Vietnam are big: Hanoi to Ho Chi Minh City is a two-hour flight. A good package includes the internal flights, so you are not spending days on buses or sorting tickets yourself. Here is what our Vietnam trips have included:

Checklist

  • Internal flights, for example Hanoi to Da Nang and Da Nang to Ho Chi Minh City
  • 4-star or 5-star hotels with daily breakfast
  • One night on a Ha Long Bay cruise with lunch, dinner, breakfast and brunch on board
  • Airport transfers in every city
  • Guided tours: Hanoi, Ha Long caves and a fishing village by sampan, Ba Na Hills with the cable car, Hoi An, Ho Chi Minh City
  • A water puppet show in Hanoi

Not included unless your quote says so:

Two bowls of Vietnamese noodle soup and noodle salad with fresh herbs, lime and chopsticks on a tray
  • The Vietnam e-visa fee
  • Tips for guides and drivers
  • Meals not named in the itinerary, and drinks
  • Optional tours such as the Mekong Delta or Cu Chi Tunnels
  • Games and extras at the Ba Na Hills amusement park
  • Travel insurance on some packages, seat selection and early check-in

Vietnam uses the dong, and prices run into many zeros, so check the amount twice. Cards work in hotels and bigger restaurants; carry cash for markets, street food and tips. Halal food is limited outside the big cities, but Hanoi, Hoi An and Ho Chi Minh City have halal restaurants and our guides can point them out. Seafood and vegetarian dishes are easy everywhere. We arrange travel insurance for your trip where the package does not include it.

03

North to south: a 7 night Hanoi, Ha Long Bay and Hoi An itinerary

This route covers the north and the centre in seven nights, with one internal flight. It is the plan we suggest for a first visit.

A train approaching along the narrow Train Street between houses and parked scooters in Hanoi
  1. 01

    Day 1: Arrive in Hanoi

Transfer to your hotel near the Old Quarter. In the evening, a one-hour water puppet show, a Vietnamese art performed on water, then a walk around Hoan Kiem Lake and the red bridge to the Ngoc Son Temple.

  2. 02

    Day 2: Hanoi city tour

Ho Chi Minh's Mausoleum and his stilt house, the One Pillar Pagoda, Tran Quoc Pagoda on West Lake and the Temple of Literature, which dates from the 11th century and was the country's first university. Afternoon in the Old Quarter, Train Street and Dong Xuan market, with egg coffee.

  3. 03

    Day 3: Ninh Binh

About two hours south by road. The temples of the old capital at Hoa Lu, then a rowing boat through rice fields and caves at Tam Coc or Trang An, often called Ha Long Bay on land. Back to Hanoi in the evening.

  4. 04

Day 4: Ha Long Bay cruise

About two and a half hours to the harbour, then board your cruise. Seafood lunch as you sail among the limestone islands, a sampan to a fishing village, kayaking near Luon Cave, a cooking class and sunset from the top deck. Overnight on board.

  5. 05

Day 5: Sung Sot Cave, then fly to Da Nang

Tai chi on deck at sunrise, a visit to a nearby cave and brunch while the boat returns to port. Transfer to Hanoi airport for the flight to Da Nang, then 45 minutes to your hotel in Hoi An.

  6. 06

    Day 6: Hoi An

A walking tour of the old town: the Japanese Covered Bridge, the Chinese assembly halls and Tan Ky House. Free afternoon for tailors, cafes or the beach at An Bang. In the evening the town lights its lanterns and boats carry candles on the river.

  7. 07

Day 7: Ba Na Hills and the Golden Bridge

One of the world's longest cable cars climbs to Ba Na Hills, with the Golden Bridge held up by two giant stone hands, the French Village, flower gardens and an indoor amusement park. Good for families.

For ten nights, add three nights in Ho Chi Minh City, a short flight from Da Nang: the War Remnants Museum, the Reunification Palace, the Central Post Office and the Notre Dame Cathedral, Ben Thanh Market, a day to the Cu Chi Tunnels and a day on the Mekong Delta by boat among the coconut islands. Our land package also offers a Saigon River dinner cruise on the first night.

04

Beach add-ons: Da Nang and Phu Quoc

Vietnam's beaches make an easy finish after the cities. Which one suits you depends on the month, because the centre and the south have different dry seasons.

  • 01

Da Nang and Hoi An, 2 to 3 nights

My Khe beach runs for miles in front of Da Nang, with resorts between Da Nang and Hoi An. Easy to combine with the Marble Mountains, Ba Na Hills and Hoi An old town. Driest from about February to August; autumn brings heavy rain and some floods.

  • 02

Phu Quoc, 3 to 4 nights

Long Beach for sunsets, Sao Beach for white sand, a long sea cable car to Hon Thom island and night markets. Driest from about November to April.

  • 03

Nha Trang, 2 to 3 nights

A city beach with island boat trips and the VinWonders park across the bay, between Da Nang and Ho Chi Minh City.

A beach stay at the end of the trip is easier than at the start: you arrive in the north while you have energy for the cities, then rest before the flight home. If a single island resort is what you want, compare our Bali packages as well.

05

Vietnam for honeymooners

Vietnam suits couples who want variety rather than a week at one resort. In one trip you get a city, a night on the water, a lantern-lit old town and a beach. Our honeymoon version uses the same route with upgrades where the hotels and cruise lines offer them.

Checklist

  • A private balcony cabin on an overnight Ha Long Bay or quieter Lan Ha Bay cruise
  • A boutique hotel in Hanoi's Old Quarter or near Hoan Kiem Lake
  • Two or three nights in Hoi An, with a lantern boat on the river and a tailor fitting
  • Private transfers and a private guide instead of shared tours
  • A beach finish in Phu Quoc or a resort between Da Nang and Hoi An

Book the cruise first, because the cabins with private balconies sell out early in the dry season. For more couples' trips in Asia, Europe and the Indian Ocean, see all our honeymoon packages.

Combining Vietnam with Cambodia or Thailand

Many travellers from the UAE make one long trip to Southeast Asia rather than two short ones. Vietnam connects easily with its neighbours by short flights.

  • 01

    Vietnam and Cambodia, 12 nights

Hanoi, Ha Long Bay, Hoi An and Ho Chi Minh City, then fly to Siem Reap for two or three nights at Angkor Wat, Angkor Thom and Ta Prohm. Cambodia needs its own visa, so we check both entry rules for your passport first.

    Cambodia tour package
  • 02

    Thailand, Vietnam and Cambodia

Two to three weeks across three countries: Bangkok and a Thai beach, Siem Reap for Angkor, then Vietnam from south to north. Flights link each step. See our Thailand tour package from the UAE for the Thai part on its own.

  • 03

Cruise: Singapore, Vietnam and Ha Long Bay

Ho Chi Minh City to Siem Reap or Phnom Penh, and Hanoi to Bangkok, are short flights. Each extra country adds an internal flight and a visa check, so build in a spare half day at each border.

07

Vietnam visa and documents for UAE residents

Most UAE residents need a Vietnam e-visa before they fly. It is applied for online with a passport scan and a photo, and approved before travel. What matters is your passport, not your UAE residence.

  1. 01

    Send your passport and photo

A clear colour scan of the passport photo page and a recent passport-style photo on a white background.

  2. 02

    Approval

Apply at least two weeks before travel.

  3. 03

    Print and carry it

Carry the printed approval with your passport, return ticket and hotel bookings.

Checklist

  • Passport with six months or more of validity counted from arrival, and some empty pages
  • UAE residence visa valid for your return
  • E-visa approval with the correct entry airport
  • Return flight ticket and hotel bookings
  • Cambodia or Thailand entry documents if you combine countries

Our visa desk handles applications for many countries from the same office. See our visa services in Abu Dhabi.

Weather by region and the right month to go

Vietnam has three climates. The north has a cool winter and a hot, wet summer. The centre gets its heavy rain in autumn. The south is warm all year with a dry season and a wet season. There is no single right month for the whole country, so we plan the order of your trip to match the weather.

North: Hanoi, Ha Long
Cool, often grey; mist on Ha Long Bay
Centre: Hoi An, Da Nang

South: Ho Chi Minh City, Phu Quoc

Centre: Hoi An, Da Nang

South: Ho Chi Minh City, Phu Quoc

June to August

Centre: Hoi An, Da Nang
Hot and dry; peak beach season
South: Ho Chi Minh City, Phu Quoc
Wet season; short heavy showers

September to November

North: Hanoi, Ha Long
Warm, dry from October; storms possible early
Centre: Hoi An, Da Nang
Rainy, risk of floods and storms
South: Ho Chi Minh City, Phu Quoc
Rain easing by November

Vietnam weather by region

For most UAE travellers, March to May and October to November give the most balanced trip from north to south. In the UAE summer holidays, the centre is at its driest and the north is hot. Over National Day and the winter break, the south and Phu Quoc are in their dry season, while Hanoi is cool, so pack a jacket. Ha Long Bay cruises can be cancelled in storms; we keep a back-up plan for those dates.
